Day 3 Puerto de la Cruz - La Palma (134 Km.)

(in 25 Km.) Los Rodeos Airport: We go out from Puerto de la Cruz bound for Los Rodeos airport, where we took a plane from Binter Canarias airline to La Palma.

(in 28 Km.) La cumbrecita: After landing on the island of La Palma going to El Paso, and from there climb to La Cumbrecita, a viewpoint at the southern side of the Caldera de Taburiente ("caldera" means "cauldron"). From the parking lot of La Cumbrecita, near the information center, you can make a trip where the first 4 km are nearly horizontal and that leads you to the center of the cauldron.

For harder excursions you can go until the Taburiente camping area, which is the destination of 60,000 visitors each year. You can reach the entrance of Tenerra, after a journey of 13 kilometers by dirt road that comes from Los Llanos and reaches up to a lookout on the right side Las Angustias (the Brecitos) from where you have to continue walking for 6 kilometers. They can also can enter walking from the riverbed of the ravine of Las angustias, up to Dos Aguas, where the trail continues up a steep slope known as the Reventón.

(in 23 Km.) Los Quemados (Fuencaliente de la Palma): Is the municipality of La Palma with the largest number of volcanic eruptions on the island. Are notable volcano Martin, 1646, San Antonio, in 1677, El Charco, in 1712 and most recently in The Teneguía (still exudes fumes) 26 October 1971. Many of the volcanic cones are kept in perfect condition and some, like El Bucaro, retain some lava flows of great beauty.

At the time of the eruption of Teneguía, the island won terrain to the sea, which is why this piece of ground became the youngest land of Spain. From this young land is cultivated a grape, which together with the climatic conditions of the area, produces one of the best Malvasias (A kind of wine). Special charm are the pine forests of the area (within them are the recreational park Fuente de los Roques), the viewpoint of Las Indias, the old lighthouse and the salt evaporation ponds.

(in 58 Km.) Puerto Naos: After complete the turn around the south side of the island, we stayed in Puerto Naos, which is the main tourist resort in the west of the island of La Palma. Its black sand beach has been awarded with the blue flag.
